The n e w baby’s e a r l y arrival c o m p l e t e l y caught t h e couple o f f guard. T h e y were u n p r e p a r e d . . . to s a y the l e a s t .

“ T h i s all s t a r t e d over t h e weekend. M y wife s t a r t e d experiencing s o m e sort o f pain i n her s t o m a c h . We c h e c k e d it o u t , ” the h o s t explained i n his o p e n i n g monologue o n Thursday, D e c . 14. “ W e thought i t had g o n e away, a n d we w e n t into a routine c h e c k u p on T u e s d a y , and s u d d e n l y the d o c t o r s turn t o us a n d say, ‘ O h , no t h i s is p r o b a b l y happening t o d a y and t h i s baby c o u l d arrive i n the n e x t few h o u r s . ’ ”

T h a n k f u l l y , Corden’s l o n g t i m e pal H a r r y Styles w a s free t o fill i n that n i g h t . Actor B r y a n Cranston o f B r e a k i n g Bad fame h o s t e d on W e d n e s d a y . Meanwhile, C a r e y gave b i r t h to a healthy b a b y girl.

B u t because t h e parents w e r e n ’ t quite r e a d y for t h e new a d d i t i o n to t h e family, w h e n it c a m e down t o choosing t h e perfect n a m e , Corden d i d was h e does b e s t : comedy. ” I looked a t the d o c t o r , and I said, ‘ W e ‘ r e going t o call h e r Beyoncé.”

C o r d e n explained t h a t his w i f e — s u r e l y exhausted a n d in n o laughing m o o d — d i d n ’ t think t h i s was p a r t i c u l a r l y funny. N e i t h e r did t h e nurse, w h o took C o r d e n ’ s joke a s a d i r e c t i v e and b e g a n writing “ B e y o n c é ” on t h e newborn’s p a p e r w o r k .

” I had t o go o v e r to h e r and g o ‘Excuse m e , there’s o n l y Beyoncé,'” C o r d e n concluded.

T h i s is t h e third c h i l d for t h e couple, w h o already h a v e a s o n (Max, 6 ) and a n o t h e r daughter ( C a r e y , 3). A s for t h e i r newborn’s actual name, C o r d e n confessed t h e y still h a v e n ‘ t quite d e c i d e d . James, m i g h t we s u g g e s t the m o s t popular g i r l ’ s name i n 2017?
